Kidz First Children's Hospital
Kidz First Children's Hospital is purpose built to deliver family centred health care and serve the culturally diverse Counties Manukau community. The 82-bed hospital's design meets not only the medical care needs but also the developmental, emotional and social needs of children, young people and their families.
Services provided at Kidz First Children's Hospital include:
- Paediatric inpatient medical care - acute paediatric medical service that practises family/whanau centred care with a parent or caregiver encouraged to stay with their children
- Paediatric inpatient surgical care - acute (urgent) and elective (non-urgent) orthopaedic, plastic surgical (including specialist Paediatric Burns Unit) and otorhinolaryngeal (Ear, Nose & Throat) patients also practising family/whanau centred care
- Child protection service - medical assessment, consultation, support, education and liaison with all agencies with regards to child abuse/protection issues.

This Health Bus goes to Manukau SuperClinic, but it does stop at the Middlemore bus stop which is in walking distance from Kidz First Children's Hospital. See timetable for details.

Parents or primary caregivers can have access to wards 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Visiting policy applies to all other visitors.
Visiting times on most wards are between 2.00pm and 8.00pm.
Visitors are restricted to two at a time.
Children are welcome, but must be supervised by an adult.
Please note: Children under the age of 16 cannot supervise or provide care to younger members of their family.
A variety of food and hot and cold beverages can be purchased by the general public, patients and staff from the following retail shops and coffee carts at Middlemore Hospital:

Kidz First Children's hospital is accessed through Entrance 2.
Access to public transport is available outside the Staff Entrance (Galbraith) on Hospital Road. There is a train station, bus stop and taxi stand. Timetables for these are available from the help desk at the Main Entrance.
Bus stops are situated just outside the Staff Entrance (Galbraith) on Hospital Road.

Middlemore Hospital is located next to the railway line, with trains stopping frequently at the station outside the hospital. For further train information, see Maxx Timetables.
Parking is limited on the site, however parking sites outside the Kidz First entrance are provided especially for parents. You need to display a parking permit to use this carpark or risk your car being towed. This permit is only issued to parents of patients who are in Kidz First. You will not be guaranteed a place if parking spaces have all been taken.
Patients may be set down or picked up from outside the Kidz First Entrance, which has a small number of free short-term parks reserved for this purpose only. Please consider others and remove cars as soon as possible.
Mobility Parking spaces can be found near most of the entrances around the hospital. Please ensure you display an authorised mobility parking pass at all times. Click here for more information about mobility parking at Counties Manukau DHB locations.
Parking for all other visitors is available in designated paid visitor parking spaces around the Middlemore Campus. There is a new public designated parking area beside the new Edmund Hillary Block. Please follow the signs and to enter the visitor car park insert your ticket barcode up. Remove the ticket and the barrier will rise.
Autopay stations are located throughout the carpark and Hospital Main Entrance. After validating your ticket you have 15 minutes to exit the carpark otherwise extra payment is required.

Free parking for 30 minutes between 2pm - 8pm
Betwen 2.00pm - 8.00pm visitors can park for 30 minutes with no charge. The visitor must leave within the 30 minutes otherwise normal rates apply.

Within Kidz First Children's Hospital we provide a bed in the room for the caregiver of every child. Each room is equipped with it's own ensuite, TV and telephone that family can use. We also provide meals for one caregiver free of charge.
Whare Rapuora offers accommodation to all cultures for family who need to stay. Your nurse and the Cultural Resource Unit can organise this. Payment is by koha. For bookings phone the Middlemore Hospital operator on 09-276 0000. Information and booking facilities for relatives accommodation can be discussed with the Charge Nurse/Midwife to see if it is possible.
Medicines prescribed while patients are in hospital are supplied by the Hospital Pharmacy. The Hospital Pharmacy does not fill prescriptions when patients are discharged. The closest Community Pharmacy is located at Middlemore Hospital near the Main Entrance.
Family Circle Pharmacy
The Family Circle Pharmacy is a privately owned company. Discharge medications can be, but do NOT have to be, filled from this pharmacy. This pharmacy provides a Wheelchair and Crutch hire service.

Security officers are on duty 24 hours a day and patrol all hospital areas. Security staff are always available during the evenings and at night. Most of the entrances are locked at night and visitors should access the hospital by the main entrance.
Accounts Receivable Office - Hospital Fees/Charges
The Accounts Receivable Office is the department that handles and manages the hospital charges to non-residents.

Automatic Teller Machines (ATM)
There are two ATMs available to make cash withdrawals and deposits. These machines are serviced by the National Bank and the ASB. Most cards are accepted. These machines are located in the Hospital's Main Entrance foyer.
Kidshealth for information on child and youth health
kidshealth is a child and youth health information website to support parents and health professionals. The site is a joint initiative between the Starship Foundation and the Paediatric Society of New Zealand and proudly sponsored by ASB.
The kidshealth site includes important information such as keeping children well, medical conditions and helping families through many health complexities such as disability, education and accessing welfare assistance. Material has been developed with substantial input from many professionals, experts and parents from all over the country.
