Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) is a branch of Women’s Health which includes high-risk pregnancy where the mother or baby or both has a problem. For most women the expectation is that pregnancy will be a happy time without problems and most will not need MFM services. However for the women who do these services are provided throughout New Zealand.

NZMFMN Christchurch

The Fetal Medicine Unit (part of the NZMFMN) for the South Island is based at Christchurch Women's Hospital.

Referrals to Fetal Medicine need to be made by your midwife (LMC), doctor (GP) or Consultant.

Each referral is dealt with on an individual basis and an appointment is made with consideration of the patient's needs. 

You will be advised of the appointment either by phone, text or mail. We are always happy to discuss appointments and will try to fit in with you.

There are cafes on the Christchurch Hospital campus.

Christchurch Women's Hospital is based alongside the central Christchurch Hospital site on Riccarton Ave.

Parking around Christchurch Hospital is metered and limited to 2 hours.

The hospital public parking building is on the corner of Antigua St and Tuam St, close to the hospital, for unlimited parking time.  There is a charge.
