Who is The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation?
The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation is a non-government funded, not-for-profit charitable trust that aims to prevent New Zealanders developing and dying from breast cancer through education, awareness, research, medical support and development, community outreach and advocacy.
Our symbol is the ‘pink ribbon’, the international symbol of breast cancer awareness and trademarked to The Foundation in New Zealand.
The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees and is guided by a Medical Advisory Committee of multidisciplinary experts in breast cancer.
What does The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation do?
October is The Foundation’s Breast Cancer Action Month and its major annual fundraising event. The month is supported by an extensive multi-media campaign, an education programme, the sale of pink ribbons through retailers nationwide, and The Pink Ribbon Street Appeal. Pink Ribbon day is held on the second Friday in October every year – 9 October 2009. The Foundation is reliant on donations from the public, sponsors, grants from trusts and special events to support its nationwide education and awareness programme, as well as initiatives within the vital field of breast cancer research:
