About Arthritis New Zealand
Arthritis New Zealand is a charity whose main aim is to enable a better quality of life for people affected by arthritis. The Arthritis New Zealand national office is based in Wellington. Delivery of services is primarily through our three regional offices (Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch). Arthritis New Zealand’s work includes:-
Providing Direct Support to clients by Arthritis Educators who provide assessment, information and advice, referral to relevant agencies and self management education. Volunteers provide services in local areas including governance, assisting service providers, lobbying and fundraising.
Educating through information brochures, condition specific programmes, a quarterly magazine and the website.
Increasing Public Awareness which includes national campaigns, media releases, seminars and forums.
Advocacy on behalf of people with arthritis to policy and decision makers at a local and national level. The main issues include having arthritis recognised as a serious public health issue, drug subsidies and access to rheumatologists.
Funding of Research through a ‘National Arthritis Research Fund’ providing monetary grants for New Zealand research into the causes and treatment of arthritis.
