Genetic Services

Services we provide include:

  • Assistance in the clinical management of genetic disease and identification of preventable complications by early and accurate diagnosis
  • Genetic counselling, further information and genetic testing for those affected by, or perceived to be at risk of, genetic disorders in extended families
  • Telephone enquiries from doctors, midwives and other health professionals concerning genetic diseases
  • Genetics education for professional and lay groups


Conditions we see frequently at genetic clinics:

  • Single gene disorders including Huntington Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophies (Duchenne, Becker, Myotonic), Fragile X Syndrome
  • Chromosome alterations - Trisomies 13, 18, 21; balanced and unbalanced translocations
  • Familial cancer syndromes - breast, ovarian, colon, VHL, MEN, NF2, Li Fraumeni.
