Description

What is Gynaecology?

Gynaecology is the area of medicine that deals with many health issues and conditions that are specific to women. This includes the female reproductive organs and genitalia. The reproductive organs consist of the ovaries (release an egg every month), the fallopian tubes, the uterus (womb), the cervix (the neck of the uterus) and the vagina.

Laparoscopy
This is a procedure to view the inside of the tummy and pelvis through a special mini telescope (laparoscope) that is inserted through a small cut around the belly button. The laparoscope is attached to a small camera that allows the areas to be seen on a monitor.
Sometimes keyhole surgery is performed at the same time. A laparoscopy is performed under a general anaesthetic (you are asleep).
