Pukekohe Hospital was opened in 1953 as a maternity unit. In 1979 a Geriatric ward was built.
Over time, the Hospital has changed its focus with ten clinic rooms utilised by visiting specialists from Counties Manukau DHB and the community.
The Adult Rehabilitation and Care Ward specialises in non acute rehabilitation, palliative and long stay hospital care.
Pukekohe Hospital currently has 45 staff covering 30 beds.
The service is managed by an Operations Manager, Registered Nurses, Allied Health Professionals and Health Care Assistants and supported by local General Practitioners and the Community Geriatrician from CMDHB.
Pukekohe Hospital hosts the Mobile Surgical Unit every six weeks, offering minor surgery on referral.
A Maternity service still operates at Pukekohe.
Home Health Care, Public Health Nurses and an Outpatient Rehabilitation Service are also based at the Hospital.
