There are a range of volunteer services available at the Auckland District Health Board and we are grateful to those volunteers who are working with us to assist in a variety of programmes. We appreciate the difference volunteers make and both our patients and the public benefit from our volunteers' contributions.
The Volunteer Service is run by a Team Leader who coordinates all the volunteer activities, recruitment, training, education and allocation of staff for those located in the Volunteer Centre. These include Starship Hospital, Red Cross and Blue Coats volunteers.
The Starship Hospital volunteers, Blue Coat Ambassadors, Red Cross volunteers are managed by the Volunteer Centre Team Leader, located in the Volunteer Centre, Level 4 in the Support Building, Auckland City Hospital. The Clown Doctors are also looked after by the Team Leader.
The Chaplaincy Assistants volunteers are managed by the Chaplains Department, located on Level 6 by the Chapel in Auckland City Hospital. This service is sponsored by the Interchurch Council for Hospital Chaplaincy Aotearoa New Zealand (ICHC).
The Volunteer Patients for the Clinical Skills Course and Mock Clinical Exams, are recruited and managed by the Clinical Education and Training Unit, located on Level 15, in the Support Building, Auckland City Hospital.
The Oncology Department volunteers are managed by the Auckland Cancer Society located at Domain Lodge at 1 Boyle Crescent, Grafton.
The Friends of the Emergency Department volunteers are trained and managed by St Johns and volunteers are allocated to our hospital Emergency Department.
