Emergency Care at Middlemore Hospital is a modern 97-bed facility providing acute care to the population of Counties Manukau.
Emergency Care provides specialised areas for resuscitation and monitoring with 6 resuscitation rooms and 8 monitored rooms. There are 27 adult assessment rooms, 2 adult procedure rooms, a dedicated plastering room and an ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) room.
Within the confines of Emergency Care is a partially separate paediatric area (Kidz First Emergency Care). This has direct access to 2 resuscitation rooms, 14 acute assessment rooms and a procedure room. There is also a 13-bed Paediatric Short Stay area.
Emergency Care also has a 24-bed Adult Short Stay Unit. This is used for patients with an 'expected' discharge within 24 hours from first arrival time and is utilised by all of the teams providing acute care.
