Elective Pre-operative Anaesthetic Assessment (PAA)
Most elective patients will have a comprehensive admission procedure as follows:
- Surgically indicated X-rays and investigations.
- Weight, blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation are measured and documented on the health questionnaire, admission to discharge planner and on the anaesthetic record.
- ECG if they fulfill the Short Stay Surgical Unit (SSSU) or Operating Rooms Direct Admitting (ORDA) investigation guidelines.
- House Officer admission.
- Consultant surgeon review of the intended surgery.
- Clinic anaesthetist review of the patient.
- Pre-assessment clinic nurse ensures all documentation is correctly filled in.
- Phlebotomy takes the requested bloods.
- Patient goes for other requested investigations.
