Kidz First Outpatient Care

Description

Kidz First Outpatient Care is primarily located at the Manukau SuperClinic, with some outreach clinics also available.  Referrals are received from a number of sources, primarily General Practitioners, although referrals are accepted in certain circumstances from other health professionals and the Ministry of Education.

The Kidz First Outpatient Care clinics are led by specialist paediatricians who also provide supervision for paediatric registrars in training and nurse specialists.

The Module 4, Manukau SuperClinic™ team consists of a Clinical Nurse Manager, paediatric nurse and administrative staff who work as an integrated team alongside Kidz First staff to ensure that patients receive an effective quality service.

Kidz First Outpatient Care provides a valuable learning environment for a range of trainee medical staff including 5th year medical students and trainee interns.

Referral Expectations

Once a referral is received by the Manukau SuperClinic™ Referrals and Appointments Centre, it is then prioritised by a paediatrican based on the referral information.  This may result in the following:

  • Receiving an appointment
  • Being placed on a waiting list
  • Being managed as a 'virtual' appointment with a clinical plan of care being communicated to the referrer and/or caregiver.

Appointments:

Once a suitable appointment time is negotiated with the parent/caregiver a letter is sent to confirm appointment details.  A reminder letter is sent the week before the appointment and either a reminder phone call or text is sent to the parent /caregiver prior to the appointment.

It is very important that if a patient is unable to attend an appointment with Kidz First Outpatient Care that the parent/caregiver informs Manukau SuperClinic™ at the earliest opportunity so that this appointment can be offered to another child.
