What do the Marinoto North and West Teams do?

Marinoto North and West provide mental health assessment and therapy for children and young people from 0-19 years who live in the Waitemata District Health Board area.

Who Works at Marinoto North and West?

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists are doctors who specialise in dealing with difficulties in thinking, feeling and/or behaviour affecting young people and their families/whanau.

Clinical Psychologists provide psychological interventions that are mainly talking therapies based on psychological principles. The aims of these are to help you understand and/or change certain thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

Registered Nurses have specific skills in assessing your physical and mental health and supporting you to stay well.

Occupational Therapists aim to help support you to be able to do the things you want or need to do, by helping you set your own goals and supporting you to work towards these.

Psychiatric Registrar is a doctor who is completing their speciality training in mental health.

Child Psychotherapists rely on communication & play as the basic tool for bringing about change for the better in your feelings and behaviours.

Social Workers help you sort out any issues you may have within your family and/or social network. They will support you to access other services and resources and help to find solutions to problems.

Why Come to Marinoto?

You or people around you may be worried about changes they notice in you. We will meet with you to talk about what is going on for you. We will decide together what help you would find useful and where to find it (if not with us). This is called a CHOICE appointment. The brochure attached has more information.

How Long Will I Have to Wait Until I am Seen?

We will offer a range of appointment times and days to choose from. If you need to be seen really quickly we will arrange this with you.

What Usually Happens at an CHOICE Appointment?

One to two staff members will usually meet and talk to you and your parent(s)/caregiver. They will also typically talk to you and your parent(s)/caregivers separately because there may be issues you would prefer to talk about on your own.

Maori and Pacific families may have support at the appointment from a cultural worker, if they would like this. For families of any culture where English is a second language an interpreter can be organised, if required.

What Usually Happens Next?

At the end of the appointment, staff will talk to you and your parent(s)/caregiver (if they have come with you) about what could be done to make things better. This may mean coming to see us on a regular basis for a period of time. This is called "partnership". Or you may be given suggestions about where else you could go to get help. We will send a letter summarising our discussion to you and your doctor.

Marinoto North and West services are free for New Zealand residents. Non New Zealand residents may be charged for some services.

Parking is free for everyone using Marinoto services.

Marinoto North Child Team
You can enter the service from Shakespeare Road, the entrance is just after the North Shore Hospital entrance (if coming from the motorway). There is parking outside the building.

Marinoto North Youth Team
There is designated 'patient parking' outside Marinoto North. Simply collect a ticket from the barrier arm ticket dispenser when you enter the hospital site. You will be given a free exit ticket once your appointment is finished. This ticket should be presented to the parking attendant at the exit booth on departure from the hospital.
 

Marinoto West Child Team
Waitakere Hospital has separate parking areas for patients, visitors and staff. Currently this parking is free.

Patient parking is situated close to the hospital and by the entrance to maternity and the outpatient buildings. Visitor parking is situated at the front of the main carpark.

At busy times the demand for parking outstrips the availability. Drivers may have to find parking on the public roads.

Marinoto West Youth Team
There is visitor parking just outside the building.
