Respite Service (Out of Home Support)
Respite (Out of Home Support) is provided by Waitemata DHB and is free for families in the Auckland and Northland regions. The service is for children 0-16 years old who have high support needs.
This service provides periodic relief to families who have children with multiple or complex needs living at home or in the community.
Your child can enjoy a range of planned stays, which may include day stays, overnight weekdays, weekends and school holidays. 24-hour care is provided by registered nurses, enrolled nurses and skilled hospital aides. We also provide cultural support and social work.
Intensive respite – (also known as radical respite) as above, but designed to meet the needs of children who require a high level of intensity in supervision and intervention.
Our vision is to provide family-centred care and opportunities for your child. Because every child is an individual, we work with you to meet their needs in a flexible, fun and safe way. Staff will take time to listen to you. We'll follow through programmes and goals you already have in place. We also develop a care plan with you, to meet your child's needs.
As health professionals, we care about creating opportunities for your child to discover new experiences and friendships.
