Weekends: Oncall Respiratory and Orthopaedic Discharge Services only

Description

The goal of physiotherapy is for all individuals to have the best quality of life possible. After assessing a person’s potential the physiotherapist, working with the patient and their family/whanau, develops treatment goals that aim to return the individual to as independent a state as possible. The physiotherapy process involves assessment, diagnosis, planning, and treating an identified problem.

Physiotherapists are autonomous health professionals and will determine the appropriateness of input for a patient. This may mean some referrals are declined or not seen within the timeframe you may have anticipated. All members of the physiotherapy team are happy to discuss any decision made.

Referral Expectations

When an individual is in hospital, any health professional is able to make a referral to physiotherapy.

If outpatient physiotherapy is indicated, referrals are accepted from DHB health professionals only. Unlike Auckland DHB & Counties Manukau DHB, no funding is provided for referrals from non-DHB specialists or General Practitioners.
