Intervention/Treatment Options
The Acute Inpatient Unit will offer a range of interventions including:
- provision of medication and the monitoring of medication effects and side effects
- physical health investigations
- service user and family/whanau education re mental illness and treatment including options for self help and self management
- range of psychological interventions aimed at the alleviation of acute symptoms:
- Basic problem solving
- Motivational interviewing
- Relaxation
- Self Help
- Basic CBT
- Individual psychological therapies.
In addition to the range of therapeutic interventions offered, there will be processes in place to ensure that service users have balance in their day-to-day routine including opportunities to rest and participate in leisure activities. In order for this to happen, service users should be given an opportunitity to identify what type of leisure activities help them to deal with stress/distress and then be given the opportunity to spend some time during each day participating in these types of activities.
The service will be able to offer a range of leisure type opportunities, for example, listening to music, taking a bath, creative arts, physical exercise, cultural specific activities, and spending time with family/whanau.
