The Audiology Department offers the following services for children and adults in the Wellington region (City, Porirua City & Kapiti Coast):
- hearing evaluation (tests) for children & adults including:
- pure tone audiometry
- impedance audiometry
- otoacoustic emissions screening
- behavioural observation audiometry
- auditory brainstem response testing
- auditory steady state response audiometry
- speech audiometry
- auditory processing disorder evaluation & therapy
- co-ordinated educational assessments with Ministry of Education Hearing Advisors
- hearing aid assessment, fittings & follow up service
- consultation on the clinical aspects of hearing and tinnitus
- newborn hearing screening
- hearing conservation information
- we maintain close contact with the hospitals' ENT (ear nose & throat) and other specialty services, referring patients with appropriate hearing and balance (inner ear vestibular) symptoms
- public hearing health outreach, research & education e.g. the risks posed by loud music for permanent hearing loss to professional musicians, young people and the general public
We offer state-of-the-art facilities and provide clinical and research assistance to several New Zealand and international universities.
