The Central and Southern Regional Genetics Service (C&SRGS), located at Wellington Hospital and Christchurch Women's Hospital, provides genetic services to half of the New Zealand population in the geographic area from New Plymouth to Invercargill. This includes a wide variety of clinical, diagnostic, educational and professional services.
Genetic Services provide information and education, risk assessment and clinical management, diagnosis and laboratory testing for a wide variety of inherited and/ or congenital conditions.
The service includes two clinical units based in Wellington and Christchurch and two laboratories (cytogenetic and molecular) based in Wellington. In addition we hold clinics in many of the smaller centres in the lower North Island and in the South Island.
Patients and family/whanau may be referred for a genetic diagnostic assessment (where the diagnosis is unknown) or for genetic counselling (where the diagnosis has been confirmed already).
A Clinical Geneticist will see patients for the genetic diagnostic assessment.
A Genetic Associate will see patients for genetic counselling.
Referrals should include all relevant/known contact information and previous assessments and investigations where possible.
Further information regarding referrals may be obtained toll-free on 0508 364 436.
