Counselling

All women that come to Women's Clinics - Te Mahoe for termination see a counsellor before seeing a certifying consultant.  Te Mahoe has qualified counsellors and social workers whose role is to discuss with you the reasons for your decision, how you feel about your decision and to assess your support systems.  In addition they will discuss the information that you will need to know about the termination procedures as well as review issues of sexual health and contraception.

The counsellor will initially ask to speak with you alone.  This is not intended to leave out your support person or partner, but is part of our process to ensure that your confidentiality is respected and that the decision is yours alone.  After a brief discussion with you, your support person can be asked to join you.
