The 'Implementing the primary health care plan and initiatives in Auckland' is a follow-up document describing how the district intends to implement the Auckland DHB Primary Health Care Plan 2008-2020. This document proposes a way forward for primary care in the Auckland DHB district and the sector is currently being consulted and invited to participate to refine details and activities for the upcoming year.
In line with Government expectations outlined in their pre-election Health Discussion Paper, Better Sooner, More Convenient (Office of the Leader of the Opposition, 2007), the Implementation plan aims to actualise a commitment to
(i) support and develop an inter-disciplinary health primary healthcare workforce,
(ii) to provide a wider range of services in primary care and
(iii) develop a ‘neighbourhood’ approach for the delivery of primary health care services. The approach aims to better co-ordinate and integrate primary, community and public health services at the locality level.
This ‘neighbourhood’ approach is also consistent with the wider WHO imperative, the vision and directions within New Zealand’s Primary Health Care Strategy and the Government’s expectations
