Wellington Radiology
Wellington Radiology services have recently moved to new facilities in the Wellington Regional Hospital. The Department offers state of the art equipment for Interventional, Cardiac, CT, US, MRI and Nuclear Medicine procedures. The newly opened Interventional Recovery Ward is available for patients who require additional care before and after their procedures. We also operate Image Intensifier Equipment in theatres and have two X-ray rooms in the Emergency Department.
Kenepuru Radiology
Kenepuru Radiology has two X-ray rooms, both capable of performing general radiography procedures. The Department also operates an Image Intensifier (I.I) for OT and a mobile (bedside) machine.
What is the Interventional Recovery Ward?
The Interventional Recovery Ward is located within the Radiology Department. The ward provides assessment, treatment and care of patients undergoing complex radiology procedures and other day case procedures that are not related to radiology such as infusions and blood transfusions.
What is Radiology?
Radiological procedures are used for looking at the internal structures of the body, whether bone or soft tissue. Usually these examinations are carried out to:
- diagnose disease states, such as cancer or heart disease
- show the extent of injury to body structures
- to aid in interventional procedures, such as angiography.
The Team
- Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs) or Radiographers perform your X-ray, barium and mammography examinations.
- Sonographers are MRTs who perform your ultrasound examinations.
- Radiologists are specialist doctors who read and understand your films. They will also be involved if you have an intravenous urogram (IVU), barium study, mammogram and a number of other ultrasound procedures. They interpret the results of the images and send them to your doctor.
- Radiology Nurses are trained in providing treatment, support and care to patients undergoing radiological procedures.
- Health Care Assistants provide general support and assistance to patients and other radiology staff.
