Description

Middlemore is the largest hospital operated by Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand.  We offer secondary-level (hospital and specialist) care and a selected range of community and domiciliary services for the population of Counties Manukau - the area that stretches from Ōtāhuhu to Port Waikato.

We also provide niche specialist tertiary services for regional and national consumers in orthopaedic and plastic surgery, burns, spinal injury rehabilitation, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care. All Counties Manukau Health facilities are smoke-free.

Visitors are asked not to enter our facilities if they or anyone in their household has COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms, or if they are currently advised to isolate.

Disposable medical-grade face masks must be worn when inside our facilities. If you do not have one, we can provide one for you to use. Reusable cloth masks, scarves, bandannas, or t-shirts cannot be used when visiting a health facility.

Counties Manukau Health provides patients and visitors with a number of convenient shopping facilities. On the ground floor, by the main entrance of the Hospital, you will find ‘Paataka Place’ which includes the Haumanu Pharmacy, Send-a-Basket (florist), and a variety of food and beverage options.

Public Transport

By free shuttle service for staff and patients

The shuttle runs every hour and half hour between Middlemore Hospital and Manukau SuperClinic.

If you have an outpatient appointment and are independently able to enter and exit the bus using steps you may like to park at Manukau SuperClinic and catch the shuttle to Middlemore Hospital. Another option is to catch the train to Middlemore Hospital and use the shuttle to go to Manukau SuperClinic. Please show a copy of your appointment letter to the driver.

The shuttle leaves from across the road from Kidz First entrance at Middlemore Hospital and at the main entrance at Manukau SuperClinic. Please allow 20 to 25 minutes for the journey, depending on traffic flow.

By St John Health Shuttle

A Monday to Friday shuttle service is operated by St John in some areas of Counties Manukau. The service is free (koha/donations are welcome) and staffed with reliable, fully-trained drivers who pick up patients, take them to their appointments, and drop them home safely again. By Public Bus Service

Daily train and bus services operate regularly through the day. The bus stop and train station are located directly outside the Hospital Road entrance.

By Car

Parking is limited at Middlemore Hospital. Please consider using public transport 

Kidz First entrance is through Gate 2. Parking sites outside the Kidz First Hospital entrance is specially provided for caregivers/parents who have patients in Kidz First. You do need to display a parking permit to use this car park or risk your car being towed.

Patients may be dropped off or picked up from outside the Hospital main entrance, which has a small number of free short-term parks reserved for this purpose only. Please consider others and remove cars as soon as possible.

Mobility Parking spaces can be located near most of the entrances around the hospital.  Please ensure you display an authorised mobility parking pass at all times.  Click here for more information about mobility parking at Counties Manukau DHB locations.

Parking for all other visitors is available in designated paid visitor parking spaces around the Middlemore Campus.  There is a new public designated parking area beside the new Edmund Hillary Block.  Please follow the signs and to enter the visitor car park insert your ticket barcode up. Remove the ticket and the barrier will rise.

Autopay stations are located throughout the carpark and Hospital main entrance.  After validating your ticket you have 15 minutes to exit the carpark otherwise extra payment is required

Hours of operation: 24 hours per day / 7 days a week.

Accommodation

Information and booking facilities for relatives' accommodation can be discussed with the Charge Nurse/Midwife to see if it is possible.

Whare Rapuora offers accommodation to all cultures for families who need to stay. Your nurse and the Cultural Resource Unit can organise this.  Payment is by koha.  For bookings phone the Middlemore Hospital operator on 09-276 0000.

Pharmacy

Hospital Pharmacy

Medicines prescribed while patients are in the hospital are supplied by the Hospital Pharmacy.

The Hospital Pharmacy does not fill prescriptions when patients are discharged. The closest Community Pharmacy is located at Middlemore Hospital near the main entrance.

Security

Security officers are on duty 24 hours per day and patrol all hospital areas.  Security staff are always available during the evenings and night.  Most of the entrances are locked at night, and the main entrance to the Hospital is where visitors should access the hospital.

Hospital TV Hire
Patients can hire TV sets during their stay in hospital.  Hireage options for all wards in the AMC Building and Edmund Hillary Building are as follows.

20 Channels including 9 SKY Channels

  • First week $8 per night
  • Second week onwards $5 per night

SKY TV

  • Monthly rate only at $99 per month (you can hire SKY for less than a month however you will be charged the full monthly rate.)
  • Cash, cheque, credit cards accepted.  Payment is required when TV is turned on.
  • To order a TV please contact (09) 522 2211 between 3pm and 7pm, 7 days a week.

Automatic Teller Machines (ATM)
There are two ATMs available to make cash withdrawals and deposits - ANZ and ASB.  Most cards are accepted. These machines are located in the hospital's main entrance foyer by the payment machines for car parking.

Hand Hygiene
Good hand hygiene reduces the risk of spreading germs.  When you come into the hospital please use the free hand gel that is installed outside the lifts, patient areas and wards.
