Who Are We?

The New Zealand Gynaecological Cancer Foundation (NZGCF) was established in May 2007 by the family of Leonie Coates who passed away from ovarian cancer in May 2006. From an early focus on ovarian cancer, NZGCF's work now encompasses all five of the main forms of gynaecological cancer.

Our Mission

Our mission is to inform and educate our community about all gynaecological cancers with the aim of increasing the survival of New Zealand women.

Our Key Messages

  • More than one million women around the world are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer each year.
  • In New Zealand, one woman dies every day from a gynaecological cancer.
  • The most common gynaecological cancers are uterine, ovarian, cervical and vulval/ vaginal.
  • Survival can be increased by early detection. However few women know the signs and symptoms of these cancers and many are reluctant to talk about any issues "down there".
  • The symptoms of gynaecological cancers differ, but anything out of the ordinary and persistent should be discussed with your doctor.
  • Visit our website to learn more about the symptoms of gynaecological cancer.

NZGCF is a registered charitable trust. We receive no government funding and we rely on the generous support of our funding, corporate, and capability partners, as well as public donatinos to continue our work.
