Profile

Dr Logan Robinson began his training at the University of Otago, gaining his medical degree in 2003. Having developed a keen desire to study ophthalmology early on in his degree he completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Ophthalmic Basic Sciences with distinction in 2008.

Logan continued his professional development in Wellington and Christchurch, completing a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Wellington Hospital. Moving to the UK in 2014 he completed a second vitreoretinal surgery fellowship. This time it was at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital – one of only two such dedicated eye hospitals in the UK.

In Manchester he learned the latest in vitreoretinal surgery, diseases of the retina and macula, and refractive cataract surgery. Here world-class surgeons (including the first to implant a ‘bionic eye’ in a patient with age-related macular degeneration) guided his development.

Returning to Christchurch in 2015, Logan took up a position as a consultant ophthalmologist at Christchurch Hospital and subsequently joined us at SES. Now he shares his knowledge training junior ophthalmologists and with educational sessions for GPs and optometrists.

Logan’s communication skills are also of great assistance to patients for understanding their condition and making informed treatment decisions.

An experienced cataract surgeon with an enthusiasm for vitreoretinal surgery, Logan treats conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, epiretinal membrane, retinal detachment, macular hole and diabetic eye disease.

Away from work Logan is an avid sports fan, enjoying mountain biking, golf and fishing. However with a young son more time is spent at playgrounds than on the course.
