Profile

Dr Rahul Dwivedi has joined the Christchurch Eye Surgery surgeon team. Rahul is the Clinical Lead for Glaucoma at Christchurch Hospital (CDHB) and also consults at Southern Eye Specialists, providing tertiary-level care for patients with glaucoma across the Canterbury region of New Zealand. An accomplished cataract and glaucoma surgeon, Rahul performs the latest innovative techniques with a strong focus on laser and minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).

Having studied medicine at the University of Manchester, Rahul completed his Ophthalmology specialist training in Liverpool, United Kingdom. His sub-specialist interest in glaucoma led Rahul to New Zealand, where he completed a Glaucoma Fellowship at the University of Auckland & Greenlane Hospital (ADHB). From an academic perspective, he has presented work at numerous international conferences and published research in peer-reviewed journals. Rahul was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist & Clinical Lead for Glaucoma at Christchurch Hospital (CDHB) in October 2020.

Outside of work, Rahul is kept busy by his two young daughters and has a passion for ancient history and travelling. As well as being an avid cricket fan, he is a devoted (and long-suffering!) follower of Blackburn Rovers Football Club.
