General Practice
General practitioners (GPs) - your family doctor - and the nurses and pharmacists they work with should be the first health professionals you contact when feeling unwell.
GPs provide primary healthcare, which covers a broad range of out-of-hospital services including general wellness, health education and counselling, disease prevention and screening, foot health, oral health, and on-going care for those with chronic conditions.
Some of the region’s GP practices publish information about their services on the internet – find out if the GPs in your area are online. Te Whatu Ora, Waitematā (former Waitematā DHB) is currently working with the PHOs to assist in getting more of their GP practices online.
