Capital & Coast DHB Audiology Service

Hours

Monday to Friday: 8am - 4.30pm.

Description

The Audiology Department offers the following services for children and adults in the Wellington region (City, Porirua City & Kapiti Coast):

  • hearing evaluation (tests) for children & adults including:
    • pure tone audiometry
    • impedance audiometry
    • otoacoustic emissions screening
    • behavioural observation audiometry
    • auditory brainstem response testing
    • auditory steady state response audiometry
    • speech audiometry
  • auditory processing disorder evaluation & therapy
  • co-ordinated educational assessments with Ministry of Education Hearing Advisors
  • hearing aid assessment, fittings & follow up service
  • consultation on the clinical aspects of hearing and tinnitus
  • newborn hearing screening
  • hearing conservation information
  • we maintain close contact with the hospitals' ENT (ear nose & throat) and other specialty services, referring patients with appropriate hearing and balance (inner ear vestibular) symptoms
  • public hearing health outreach, research & education e.g. the risks posed by loud music for permanent hearing loss to professional musicians, young people and the general public

We offer state-of-the-art facilities and provide clinical and research assistance to several New Zealand and international universities.

Charges

Hearing test services for children and adults are provided at no charge.

At C&CDHB hearing aids are provided at cost price (wholesale) plus 10% of the cost of the hearing aid for non community card holders and 5% for community card holders.

All NZ residents are eligible for a government hearing aid subsidy of $511.11 for one or $1022.22 for two hearing aids. Community card holders are charged for their hearing aids at cost price (wholesale) plus 5%.
