The Auckland Skin & Cancer Foundation provides complete skin care management.

The specialist medical and nursing team at the Foundation brings together expertise in dermatology, dermatological surgery and laser surgery, offering comprehensive skin and cancer treatment. The Foundation also offers a wide range of clinical, cosmetic and pathology services.

Our Services

A comprehensive range of services for the management of all kinds of skin conditions requiring medical and surgical dermatology treatments is available including:

Accurate diagnosis of skin cancers and skin rashes
Surgical treatment of skin cancers and growths including Mohs micrographic surgery
Sclerotherapy for the treatment of varicose and spider veins
Collagen, Botox and peels for frown lines, wrinkles and skin blemishes.

The Auckland Skin & Cancer Foundation is also home to five lasers offering complete skin laser care, including the treatment of the following conditions:

Skin cancers and growths
Wrinkled and sun damaged skin, including sun spots, liver spots and freckling
Broken facial and leg veins
Port wine stains, strawberry marks and other red/brown birthmarks.

All treatment is provided by a specialist team of dermatologists, nursing staff and aestheticians who have more than 40 years of skin care experience.

The specialist dermatologists are:

Dr Fergus Oliver: a specialist in the management of complex skin conditions, skin surgery, laser surgery and dermatopathology.
Dr Denesh Patel: specialises in all aspects of skin cancer management including surgery, childhood skin conditions, pigmentation and sun sensitivity disorders.
Dr Paul Le Grice: specialises in skin cancer detection and treatment, including skin cancer surgery, Mohs micrographic surgery and laser surgery. His broad interest in cosmetic dermatology and expertise in the use of laser led him to establish the Auckland Skin Laser Centre which also operates within the Foundation premises.
Dr Todd Gunson: a consultant dermatologist and Mohs surgeon, he specialises in the assessment and treatment of all skin conditions, and has additional specialised training in Mohs micrographic surgery, and general skin surgery.

Referral Expectations

A dermatologist and a GP can, in some cases, diagnose skin conditions just by looking at them. The shape, size, colour and location are all assessed, as well as any other symptoms. At times a biopsy has to be taken so that a diagnosis can be made. A biopsy is the removal of a small piece of the skin/lesion for examination under a microscope. Minor surgery may be needed to perform this biopsy. In some cases the whole lesion will be removed and examined.

Another way a dermatologist can examine a skin disorder is by scraping some of the top layer of skin from the lesion/affected area. This is called a skin scraping. This scraping is also sent to the laboratory for examination.

During the consultation your dermatologist will discuss your medical history, examine your skin and determine, with you, the most appropriate treatment.

Following any surgery or treatment, skin care will be explained and detailed instructions provided for post treatment recovery.
