Introduction
Young people need to be considered as a discrete group with specific health needs related to their age and developmental stage. Examining the particular health needs of young people has shown that there has been little attention paid to their specific needs and that in reality they have largely got lost between children and adult services.
The major health issues for young people in ADHB include teenage pregnancy, injury, mental health issues including suicide and self-harm and sexual health as well as oral health and skin sepsis. A Youth Health Improvement Plan has been developed and can be downloaded from the link below. Work is currently underway to determine how to implement the plan within current constraints.
