The Kaiatawhai service is designed to ensure that the cultural and spiritual needs of Maori patients and their whanau are met. Kaiatawhai services are individualised according to the specific needs of those we serve. We visit Maori patients and assess how we can support them.
The cultural assessment is based on the following aspects of a person:
- Te taha tinana (physical)
- Te taha wairua (spiritual)
- Te taha whanau (family)
- Te taha hinengaro (mental and emotional)
There are two Kaiatawhai teams based at Auckland City Hospital and Starship Children's Health. The offices at Starship are located on level two next to the main entrance.
