Advanced Imaging Services
Description
Advanced Imaging Services provide Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) dental and maxillofacial scans for practitioners and specialists including maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists, general dentists, plastic surgeons and ear, nose & throat surgeons.
CBCT scanners have been available for craniofacial imaging since 1999 in Europe, 2001 in the United States, and 2005 in Australia. Although the imaging is created using computed tomography (CT) and the images appear similar to conventional medical multislice CT (MSCT) images, the method of x-ray emission and capture is quite different.
CBCT generates a 3D cone-shaped beam of x-rays that produces a 3D volumetric image that can be sliced along the axial, coronal and sagittal planes.
CBCT images are more accurate than medical CT images, allowing better visualisation of the affected area and more accurate assessment and planning of appropriate treatments.
Besides providing more accurate and useful images, CBCT is quicker to perform and exposes the patient to less radiation than medical CT scanning.
