Renuka Bhat is a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist whose main interest is in the medical and surgical management of maternal medical complications and prenatal diagnosis and management of congenital fetal conditions.

She led the specialty of Maternal Fetal Medicine from 2003 until 2007 and initiated the establishment of Fetal Medicine as a separate unit to improve the care provided to women in a very emotional and vulnerable time in their pregnancies. She continues her interest with ongoing improvements in this service especially in patient education about the rare fetal conditions.

Renuka is involved in the surgical aspect of the care of women with difficult pregnancies. She is one of the few specialists who perform cerclage for cervical incompetence through the abdominal approach. She continues to take leading interest in the diagnosis and management of invasive placental conditions such as placenta accreta and percreta.

Renuka specializes in invasive fetal diagnostic procedures (e.g. chorionic villous sampling, amniocentesis, and fetal cord blood sampling/transfusions), prenatal ultrasound and gynaecological sonography.
