Our approach to your care
A matou whakatata ki o tumanako

Our staff at Bay of Islands Hospital recognises that you know best how your body responds to illness and other life experiences and what is right and acceptable for you. We would like you to continue making decisions regarding your health and caring for yourself with our assistance and support.

There will be some things that you will be able to do for yourself and others that you will need help with. We will support your right to be fully informed about your health situation and care. Please don't hesitate to ask for more information or to question anything you don't understand.

We encourage the support of a close relative or friend and would be happy to discuss how you might like them involved in your care. If your child is a patient, you are welcome to stay with your child.

After Hours GP Services

Since Feb 2009 the mid-north GPs have combined to operate their emergency GP services from the Bay of Islands Hospital. Please note that the GP services are by appointment only. This is not a drop in service and patients wishing to see the GP on call in an emergency need to phone for an appointment. The phone number to use is your usual GPs' phone number.

There will be a charge for seeing the GP in an emergency at the Bay of Islands Hospital. This is not a free hospital based service and payment will be required.

There are a number of benefits of having the emergency GP service based at the Bay of Islands Hospital, including improved co-operation between GPs and hospital services and a more sustainable GP workforce.
