Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Our state-of-the-art MRI scans give a detailed picture of what’s going on inside your body. Click here for some helpful information about what an MRI is and what to expect if you need one. MRI is short for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. While the experience for you involves lying within the MRI scanner, behind the scenes our leading-edge technology is using a combination of a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and computer processing to create extremely detailed images of your body’s tissues and organs. Your MRI scan will help give doctors a more detailed picture of a range of issues from injuries to tissue damage or disease. The process is usually simple and painless – all you need to do is to lie still on the scanning bed while the machine does the work. Our team of highly skilled MRI Technologists will support you every step of the way. For more information about MRI click here.

X-ray

Did you know that an x-ray was the original form of diagnostic imaging with original technology dating back to the nineteenth century. Here at Pacific Radiology we continually invest in the most advanced imaging technology to safely create highly accurate images of the inside of your body. In its simplest form, an x-ray is an invisible beam of electromagnetic energy that passes painlessly through your body tissues. X-rays are most frequently used to allow your doctor to assess or check for fractures or issues with the bones and joints, as well as the chest. Our more advanced x-ray imaging techniques will be used to image the heart, major blood vessels and other structures within your body. For more information about x-ray click here.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound scanning is a safe way to see what’s happening inside your body using high frequency sound waves. An ultrasound can be used to look at soft tissue and because it’s done in real time it can show movement and blood flow as well as structure. A trained sonographer will perform your ultrasound with some gel and a small handheld tool called a transducer. These state-of-the-art ultrasound scans are often used to diagnose conditions of the internal body structures as they are cost-effective, easily accessible and accurate. All you need to do is to relax and let our sonographer do the work. For more information about ultrasound, including obstetric (pregnancy) ultrasound, click here.

CT

Computed tomography (CT) Our CT scanner is an x-ray machine hooked up to a powerful computer. However, unlike a standard x-ray, the scanner is not limited to bones. It can 'see' soft tissue, blood vessels and even air inside your body – all in rich detail. A CT scan can be used to visualise nearly all parts of the body, providing your doctor with valuable insights into your health and wellbeing. As well as the conventional cross-section scans you may have seen before, our state-of-the-art equipment can also produce layered and 3D images. The process is non-invasive, fast and painless – and our team of highly skilled CT Technologists will support you every step of the way. Click here for more information.

DEXA Bone Density

Quick, safe and non-invasive DEXA scan measures bone density and body composition. DEXA stands for Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry, also known as bone densitometry, and is used to measure the strength of your bones. Our DEXA scans are today’s gold standard for measuring and monitoring bone mineral density using an advanced form of x-ray scanning technology. DEXA is commonly used to diagnose conditions where the density of your bones is lower than it should be, including osteoporosis and osteopenia. During a DEXA scan, we measure your bone mineral content and compare it to people of the same age and gender as you. This helps your doctor plan preventative therapy or medical treatment by giving detailed accurate information about your bone strength. For more information about bone density and body composition scans click here.

Interventional Services

Our specialist radiologists use a range of diagnostic imaging tools to guide very specific interventional examinations and procedures. Interventional radiology uses minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases in nearly every organ system. They are performed by our highly specialised Interventional Radiologists who are able to treat a wide range of conditions without the need for major surgery or a general anaesthetic. Interventional radiology can have better outcomes for you, the patient, as it is faster, safer, better tolerated and more cost-effective. It also means that you do not usually need to be admitted to hospital. Read more here.
