Description

The Kaumātua Drop-in space at the Rōngomātāne centre provides a safe, vibrant, and culturally grounded environment dedicated to the hauora (wellbeing) of kaumātua, kuia, and the older community in Porirua.

We offer a welcoming space for those aged 55+ to foster social connections, share knowledge, and maintain an active, independent lifestyle.

Our Services

  • Social Connection: A warm environment to connect with peers, share stories, have a cuppa and participate in community learning.

  • Cultural Elder Abuse Response Service: Specialist support for those experiencing or at risk of elder abuse and neglect. We operate from a Kaupapa Māori perspective.

  • Advocacy & Tautoko: Supporting you to navigate systems and ensuring your voice is heard in decisions regarding your life.

  • Whānau-Centred Support: Working alongside you and your whānau to build a sustainable circle of care.

  • Specialist Liaison: Acting as a bridge to other services and support to ensure holistic care.

Our Approach (Manaaki Kaumātua)

We are committed to Upholding Your Mana. Our team operates under the principle that you are the expert of your own life. We prioritise your self-determination and work discreetly to restore Tapu (protection) and safety if you are feeling vulnerable, neglected, or hurt.
