Rongoā Mauri was founded in 2016 by Joanne Hakaraia-Olson and her husband Nick Olson as a whare hauora — a sacred healing space dedicated to restoring balance and wellbeing through the ancient practices of Rongoā Māori. Today, Joanne serves as the kaitohu (spiritual guide and lead practitioner), supported by a small and devoted roopū of healers who are committed to the wairua of this work.

Rooted in tikanga Māori and the intelligence of te taiao (the natural world), our mahi is guided by aroha, intuition, and the mauri of Aotearoa’s native plants. We offer holistic healing for body, mind, and wairua through rongoā rākau (plant medicine), spiritual guidance, and ceremonial practice.

We are proud to be ACC Registered Providers of Rongoā Māori services, offering a range of experiences including healing sessions, immersive forest trails, and transformative wānanga across Aotearoa. Whether you are seeking personal healing, cultural reconnection, or looking to introduce this mātauranga into your workplace or community, we are here to walk alongside you.

Referral

Joanne Hakaraia is a Rongoā Māori healer and has been healing for nearly 20 years.
She provides Mirimiri and Rongoā (traditional plant medicine) and draws upon the ancient traditions and life-force of the ngahere to facilitate healing.
Healing ourselves is integral to healing Papatūānuku. Through Rongoā Māori, we are able to heal from the traumas of the past and connect with the natural world, embodying our spiritual connection to Papatūānuku.
Rongoā Mauri Healing supports people suffering with stress, anxiety, trauma or PTSD.

It's culturally grounded care that weaves tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori, te reo Māori, and te ao Māori through all aspects of the service. We respect that these aspects embrace ngā taonga tuku iho (intergenerational gifts and knowledge handed down from tupuna Māori). We see rongoā Māori in the wider context of traditional Māori healing methodologies. ACC don't consider healing techniques from non-Māori cultural traditions, such as reiki or hyperbaric oxygen treatment, part of rongoā Māori. Even if they're provided by rongoā Māori practitioners.
