ACC Rongoā Māori

We are a registered ACC Rongoā health provider supporting Kiritaki through traditional Māori Rongoā practices of Mirimiri, Karakia and Whitiwhiti Kōrero.

Māori rongoā is a traditional Māori health practice that encompasses a range of natural healing methods and therapies rooted in Māori culture and spirituality.

It involves the use of:
Physical Techniques: Mirimiri (traditional massage technique) to relieve muscle tension and improve circulation.
Spiritual and mental health: Addressing mental and emotional wellbeing through karakia.
Natural Resources: some examples kawakawa, mānuka, kumarahou, koromiko, kānuka for their healing properties.

The Holistic Approach: Rongoā takes a holistic view of health, considering not just the physical body but also the mind, spirit, and the connection to the environment. This approach emphasizes the interrelationship between these elements and the importance of maintaining balance.
The Cultural Significance: The practice of rongoā is deeply tied to Māori cultural beliefs and traditions. It reflects a worldview that sees health as a state of balance and interconnectedness, influenced by ancestral knowledge and practices.

Rongoā is not just a set of treatments but a way of life that incorporates Māori values and understanding of health and well-being.

Staff

We are a registered ACC Rongoaa Māori Health service. We have a team of experienced Practitioners whose only goal is to help you feel well inside and out. We are determined to grow more practitioners to be of benefit to you, your whānau and all within the communities aiding in better health and wellbeing outcomes.

Our current Rongoaa Practitioners are Shardaye Adams, Boxer Shaw, Kumeroa Phillips and Shanice Wilcox. The service is led by Jeanette Wara.

Living my Life team is led by Danielle Oakes, Pou Arahi (CEO) of Te Ahi Kaa Indigenous Solutions. Along with Tennille Hori they both are highly experienced within health and social services. They will help you forge those pathways to living the life you want and reaching the goals you set.

Our Navigation service is led by Tamorangi Wara with team member Boxer Shaw. They will guide and assist you through ACC systems and processes. Their assistance will ensure your journey through these processes is easy to understand and navigate through.

If you have an ACC claim and would like Rongoaa Māori health service, you must request the service by contacting ACC.

Once ACC approve your request they will contact us with an order number specific to you.
We will then contact you to schedule an appointment.

Saturday / Sunday Rongoaa Māori Health Service can be discussed and arranged with one of our Rongoaa Practitioners.

It's culturally grounded care that weaves tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori, te reo Māori, and te ao Māori through all aspects of the service. We respect that these aspects embrace ngā taonga tuku iho (intergenerational gifts and knowledge handed down from tupuna Māori). We see rongoā Māori in the wider context of traditional Māori healing methodologies. ACC don't consider healing techniques from non-Māori cultural traditions, such as reiki or hyperbaric oxygen treatment, part of rongoā Māori. Even if they're provided by rongoā Māori practitioners.
