Description

Asthma NZ has been providing asthma, COPD and respiratory education, advocacy and support to kiwis for over 50 years. 

Vision: All Kiwis can Breathe Easy – those with asthma and other respiratory conditions are thriving 

Mission: Asthma NZ is the peak body for patient centered education and support 

Purpose: Deliver positive health outcomes for individual living with asthma and other respiratory conditions, through:
-Effective patient education, advocacy and support 

-Leading a positive impact on respiratory health system delivery

We run a secondary schools asthma programme, community education, spirometry services, health professional education/courses, COPD support groups and more.

Fees and Charges Description

Free asthma and COPD education and support for patients living within Auckland Central, Waitemata and Wellington regions. Regretfully, we are currently unable to offer services to people living outside of these regions.

Spirometry and our health professional courses incur a charge per our website

Home support

Asthma and COPD education and support delivered in-home, in-clinic or virtually by a respiratory educator

Asthma and COPD education and support delivered in-home, in-clinic or virtually by a respiratory educator

Spirometry

Spirometry measures lung function, specifically the amount and/or speed of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. Spirometry is a gold standard diagnostic test for long-term respiratory conditions such as asthma and COPD. Spirometry services are available at our office in Mt. Eden, Auckland. Referrals can be made via this link online referral form and we accept both self and health professional referrals. Once your referral has been received, our nurses will be in touch to go through some screening questions and get you booked in. Cost is $70 for both diagnostic and other (insurance, medical, employer, surveillance). With your consent, a copy of your report will be sent to your GP for interpretation and evaluation. C.A.R.E (Courses in Asthma and Respiratory Education) Asthma New Zealand offer in-person and virtual asthma and COPD courses scheduled throughout the year for all health professional types including nurses, pharmacists, GP's, physios etc. Courses are run by our specialist respiratory nurses. The asthma course is an interactive, practical and evidence-based day where participants leave with a completion certficate and 8 PD hours and an increased knowledge and competence in: Asthma introduction – global and local context Aetiology and risk factors Pathophysiology of asthma Asthma triggers Management of asthma emergencies in the community Pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of asthma Correct use and care of inhaler devices How to educate patients about asthma Application of the latest asthma guidelines Cost: $100 Our COPD course is half a day and includes a completion certificate and 4 PD hours: COPD introduction – global and local context Aetiology and risk factors Pathophysiology Triggers Management of COPD in the community Pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of COPD Correct use and care of inhaler devices Application of the latest COPD guidelines Cost: $50 To register for one of our courses, please click here: here
