DECIDE, the National Abortion Telehealth Service, was launched in 2021 to connect people anywhere in New Zealand with abortion providers.

The DECIDE website features a directory of registered abortion providers across New Zealand. This enables people to contact a service directly without needing a referral or a prior appointment with a doctor, making it easier to access abortion care anywhere in New Zealand on their own terms.

DECIDE also connects people to the National Abortion Telehealth Service, which offers an early medical abortion service by phone or video consultation.

Everyone seeking abortion care has the right to access abortion counselling before or after their abortion.  The DECIDE website details the counselling options offered by each abortion provider. National Abortion Telehealth Service clients also have counselling options, and the DECIDE nurses can support them to access this service.

People using the National Abortion Telehealth Service will have a phone consultation with an experienced Registered Nurse. After the consultation, the abortion medication is either couriered to them, or a prescription is sent to the pharmacy they choose. The DECIDE team follows up with the person to ensure that they are ok, or if further care is needed.

The DECIDE telehealth service is free for people eligible for publicly-funded healthcare in New Zealand. DECIDE is funded by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and jointly operated by Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa and Magma Healthcare. Read more at www.DECIDE.org.nz
