Educator Service

Our Parkinson's Educators provide information, education and support for people who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's. 

A Parkinson’s Educator will initially visit you at your home or offer alternative options such as a phone or video call to answer any questions you or your whānau may have about the condition. Our Parkinson’s Educators can also provide referrals to other health professionals including physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists. Parkinson's Educators can also liaise with doctors and specialists.

People who are diagnosed with Parkinson’s can complete a client referral form which is available at www.parkinsons.org.nz to receive our service.

Parkinson's educators can provide:

  • home visits
  • support groups for clients and carers
  • referrals to other health professionals and those who work with people with Parkinson’s in the community
  • advice on monitoring of medication
  • general advice
  • advocacy
  • Information about exercise
  • facilitate family/whānau meetings
  • seminars.
