Arohanui Hospice

Community Health Service

Arohanui Hospice provides specialist palliative care for people with a life-limiting illness, and support for their families/whanau, throughout Palmerston North, the Manawatu, Tararua, Rangitikei and Horowhenua districts, and Otaki.

We have approximately 220 patients in our care at any one time. Last year, more than 1000 patients were cared for, either in the Hospice's 10-bed in-patient unit in Palmerston North, or in the patient's own home or an aged-care residence in the community.

Our services are used by anyone with life limiting illness such as cancer, respiratory, heart disease, motor neurone disease or HIV-AIDS.

Arohanui Hospice is partially-funded by the government via DHBs. However, to ensure that its services remain free of charge, the Hospice needs to raise an additional $2.82 million this financial year - that's just over $50,000 every week!

The services provided by Arohanui Hospice include support of the patient in the community, inpatient care, carer support, a pharmacist, a 24-hour advice service seven days a week, outpatient clinics, day procedures, an activities-based day programme, social work services, family support, pastoral support and bereavement support.

Our vision is to ensure that people with life-limiting conditions gain the most from life, live well and die well - with peace, dignity and comfort - irrespective of their condition or care setting.
