The hospice provides short term inpatient care (usually 1 - 2 weeks) for complex symptom management or care in the last days of life if care at home is no longer possible. The hospice is not able to provide long term care but our staff are able to help family/whanau to consider long term care options.
The specialist palliative care team is skilled in monitoring and supporting patients at home, helping with pain and other symptoms causing concern. The team works alongside general practitioners, district nurses, pharmacists and other health professionals to provide the best possible care.
There is also a team of specialist nurses who provide support, advice and education to all Aged Care Facilities in Canterbury
