WellSouth - B-Well, Falls & Fracture Prevention Team

Community Health Service

8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

The B-well Falls and Fracture Prevention Team is a small team of nurses and allied health professionals.

Our B-well team are passionate about keeping older people well and independent. Positive ageing is about providing the best quality of life for older people. A joint initiative by the Ministry of Health, Health Quality and Safety Commission and ACC aims to keep older adults safe on their feet and reduce injuries from falls.

  • Have you slipped, tripped or fallen in the past year?
  • Do you have to use your hands to get out of a chair?
  • Have you avoided some activities because you are afraid you might lose your balance?

If you are over 65yrs, the B-Well, Falls & Fracture Prevention Team offer a range of services which can help:

  1. Home based strength and balance programme

Based on the Otago Exercise Programme, we support older adults at home with leg muscle strengthening and balance retraining exercises. We can also advise on safety in the home.

  1. Community strength and balance

As the lead agency appointed by ACC, we approve existing exercise groups and help develop new classes aimed at improving strength and balance. Group classes that have received the ‘tick of approval’ can be found on the ACC Live Stronger for Longer website.

  1. Fracture Liaison Service within General Practice

We work with GPs to identify patients who are at risk of fractures related to osteoporosis.

See the WellSouth website for more information on our GP practices and all other health services.
