What is dental care?

Dental care is about looking after your child / teenager's teeth. This is important as healthy baby teeth are needed for eating, smiling and talking. Keeping teeth clean and healthy while you're young means you enter adulthood with a bright, healthy smile.

What to expect:

Our dental services are delivered across the Bay of Plenty through community dental clinics and mobile units. Te Manu Toroa is a kaupapa Māori provider offering dental services in the Western Bay.

Under 5 year olds:

  • Babies are enrolled from birth. To find out more ask your Well Child / Tamariki Ora provider or call 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583)
  • See here for community dental clinics and mobile unit locations, including Te Waka Niho

Primary and intermediate school children:

  • See here for community dental clinics and mobile unit locations, including Te Waka Niho
  • To find out more call 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583)

Teenagers up to their 18th birthday are still entitled to free basic dental care from selected dental providers. Make sure your teenager is enrolled before they turn 18, so they don't miss out.

  • You can find a dental provider that offers free basic dental care by calling 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583) or see here.
