Dr Joel Yap

Dr Joel Yap is an eye surgeon who specialises in vitreo-retinal surgery and general ophthalmic surgery, including cataract surgery. He is in private practice in Auckland as well as working as a consultant in the public sector.

Dr Joel completed his medical training at the University of Otago in 2007 and accomplished his ophthalmic training in Auckland and northern New Zealand. He then went to the University of Toronto in Canada to further his vitreo-retinal sub-specialist training.

In 2018, Dr Joel returned to practise at Auckland DHB and Counties Manukau DHB. Joel has a passion for clinical research and teaching, and strives to achieve the best possible outcome for the patients he cares for. He is a member of both the American and European Society of Retinal Specialists, as well as the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists.
