Bert obtained his MD from the State University Groningen, Netherlands and undertook radiology training at the University Hospital Groningen. Following a fellowship in Sydney Bert took up the position of chief CT and ultrasound section of the radiology department Groningen University Hospital and subsequently became involved with MRI.

Bert completed a PHD thesis on MRI of the kidney in 1987 at Groningen University. He left Europe in 1988 to work as a consultant radiologist at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia before joining Middlemore Hospital and Manukau Radiology as a consultant in November 1991.

Bert has a special interest in:

• Cross-sectional imaging MR-CT-ultrasound; and
• Body and musculoskeletal imaging
