Dr Priyamvada Sobarun is a New Zealand-trained dermatologist and Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Fellow of the NZ Dermatological Society Inc . She is a permanent staff and consultant at Auckland City Hospital and Greenlane Clinical Centre.
Dr Sobarun obtained her medical degree at the University of Cape Town in 2005. She moved to New Zealand in 2007 and worked in various medical and surgical specialties as a resident medical officer. She completed her advanced training in Dermatology in Middlemore Hospital, Waikato Hospital and Auckland City Hospital. Her overseas fellowship was completed in Brisbane, Australia where she worked at the Queensland Institute of Dermatology, Greenslopes Private Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital and Queensland Children’s Hospital. She was awarded the Prof Beardmore prize for the best registrar while working at QID.
She gained valuable clinical and translational research experience at the renowned Dermatology Research Centre, University of Queensland where she worked on cutting-edge research on actinic keratosis, non-melanoma skin cancer, melanoma and the microbiopsy.
Dr Sobarun is interested in all aspects of dermatology especially skin cancers and melanomas. Apart from her clinical duties, Dr Sobarun is heavily involved in the supervision of dermatology registrars. She is a honorary academic with the University of Auckland and regularly supervises medical students.
Dr Sobarun has published in peer-reviewed international journals and DermnetNZ. She has also served as a reviewer for the Australasian Journal of Dermatology.
