Profile

Rinki is a diabetologist and physician working at Auckland DHB and Counties Manukau Health and in private practice at the Mercy Specialist Centre.  She is also a senior lecturer in medicine at the University of Auckland where she has an active role in both teaching and clinical research in diabetes and obesity (>50 published papers in peer-reviewed journals).  Rinki has been medical advisor for Diabetes Auckland since 2009. 

Rinki has set up the New Zealand national guidelines and database for monogenic diabetes (www.nzssd.org.nz).

Interests

Rinki’s special clinical interests and expertise includes the management of adults and adolescents with:

  • obesity and disorders associated with obesity
    • including medical supervision of very low calorie diet programme
  • diabetes – all aspects of diagnosis and management including insulin pumps
  • metabolic syndrome
  • severe insulin resistance
  • lipodystrophy
  • polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and hirsutism.
