Drury Surgery Ltd. is an established general medical family practice providing primary healthcare to the people of Drury, Karaka, Papakura and outlying communities since 1985. 

Drury Surgery Ltd is a Cornerstone accredited teaching practice and a member of Procare Network Manukau PHO.

We have been part of our Drury community for over 30 years and pride ourselves that our qualified medical professionals are recognised by their peers for their knowledge and skills.

We are a family centred surgery and all of our staff work closely together to ensure we provide the best possible primary healthcare services to our patients.

We want our patients to feel that they have been dealt with in a friendly, courteous manner and that all that can be done for them has been done.

Flu vaccine
are NOW available. Eligibility criteria for FREE seasonal influenza vaccination for 2019:

  • Pregnant women (any trimester)
  • People aged 65 years and older
  • People aged under 65 years with any of the specified chronic medical conditions
  • Children aged 4 years or under who have been hospitalised for respiratory illness or have a history of significant respiratory illness

Zostavax  is fully subsidised for people aged 65 years For a period of two years (1 April 2018 until March 2020), people aged 66 to 80 years can receive a catch-up fully funded Zostavax (shingles) vaccination so if you are over 65 and not yet 81 years old please talk to your nurse when you come for this years flu vaccine to see if you are eligible for the funded Zostavax vaccine.

You can book your smear appointments with  our nurse smear takers. We have a private nurse consultation room for your smear appointments. 

From 1 December 2018 Zero Fees for under 14 year olds and reduced fees for Community Service Card holders. (CSC)

If you think you might be eligible for a CSC (Community Services Card) you can contact the MSD (Ministry of Social Development) call centre on 0800 999 999 .The Community Services Card (CSC) can help individuals and their families with the costs of healthcare. It entitles the holder and their family to a reduction in the cost of some health services and prescriptions. The card can also be used for dependent children aged under 18 years. This is a brief outline of the personalised medical, nursing and reception services available to you at our medical centre, along with some information about our staff and our facilities.

Our practice, situated in Drury, is at the southern border of Papakura and lies north of the Franklin District. It is where town meets country.

Our staff work together closely to ensure that we can provide the best possible primary health services for you.

Our doctors and nurses are qualified and registered medical professionals with the knowledge and skills to provide patient-centred, personal, family, whanau and community orientated, comprehensive primary medical care to all of our patients in a professional, friendly and courteous manner.

We have a Practice Clinical Assistant to assist and communicate with our clinical team.

Our clinical team is also wonderfully supported by our reception and administration team.

Our receptionists are pivotal people in our medical practice, as they are our patients' and visitors' first point of contact. They assist and communicate with clinical staff to co-ordinate our services and help prioritise workflows and manage patient expectation.

We want our patients to feel that they have been dealt with in a friendly, courteous manner and that all that can be done for them has been done. 

Meet the staff


Dr Judy Goulden started this practice in 1985 and, together with her husband Dr Peter Coleman and Dr David Shand, are GP shareholder owners of this practice.

David, Peter and Judy together have a combined total of over 90 years primary healthcare experience.

They are recognised as high quality healthcare providers by the public and other healthcare providers.

Peter and Judy have a special interest in sports medicine.

The rest of our team of doctors comprises:

Dr Carlijn Hoedemaker, Dr Catherine Lu,  Dr Christine Rushton, Dr Erik Benjamins, Dr Lynnette Ashby and Dr Min Ju Kim.

Carlijn is here Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Requests received after 2pm on Wednesday will not be actioned until Friday and requests received after 2pm on a Friday will not be actioned until the following Tuesday. Carlijn is accepting new patients.

Min Ju is not here on Wednesdays and Thursdays so requests received after  2pm on a Tuesday will not be actioned until the Friday. Min Ju is accepting new patients.

Catherine is not here on Tuesdays. Requests received after 2pm on a Monday will not be actioned until Wednesday. Catherine is accepting new patients and you are welcome to see Catherine when your regular doctor is unavailable. 

Erik is off Tuesday afternoons. Requests received after 11am on a Tuesday will not be actioned until Wednesday. Erik is accepting new patients.

Christine is not here on Monday and Wednesdays  so requests received after 2pm on a Tuesday will not be actioned until the Thursday and requests received after 2pm on a Friday will not be actioned until the following Tuesday. Christine's book is closed and she is unable to accept new patients and she is is only able to see patients currently registered with her.  

David and Peter have alternate Thursdays and Fridays off. On the weeks they are off on a Thursday requests received after 2pm Wednesday will not be actioned until Friday and on the weeks they have Fridays off requests received after 2pm Thursday will not be actioned until the following Monday. David and Peter's book are closed and they are unable to accept new patients and they are only able to see patients currently registered with them. 

Judy is here all day Monday, Tuesday afternoon and  Wednesday morning and some Thursday afternoons.  Medication requests received after 11am on a Wednesday will not be actioned until the following Monday. Judy's book is closed and she is unable to accept new patients and she is only able to see patients that are currently registered with her.

Lynnette is here for a full day Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Requests for medication from her patients will only be actioned on these days and requests received after 11am on a Thursday will not be actioned until the following Wednesday. Lynnette's book is closed and she is unable to accept new patients and she is only able to see patients currently registered with her.

We do not book appointments between 12pm - 1.30pm. This enables your doctors to attend to their paper work and have some lunch.

We are closed all public holidays and every weekend. Please note we close at 4pm the day before a public holiday.


On normal week days our phones switch on at 8am each weekday and turn off at 5pm Monday to Friday; and 4pm the night before a public holiday. 

Patients are requested to always ring and book an appointment with your nurse or doctor.
For repeat prescription requests and lab results or to book an appointment please use our online patient portal.

Our nurses are often not able to immediately take your call as they care for the patients with booked appointments. If you wish to have a call back from a nurse please ask reception to put your name on the nurse queue. The nurses will then ring you as soon as they are able.


After-hours Telephone Consultation: 09 294 3005

Your after-hours calls are redirected to the Homecare Medical nurse triage service which provides a free after-hours telephone consultation with a registered nurse. When necessary, the HML nurse may advise you to go to an urgent after-hour's accident and medical centre for care (see below).

If you are unable to attend your appointment we would appreciate you advising us as soon as possible, at least 1 hour before your scheduled appointment.
You may be charged for this time if you do not cancel before a certain time.

Our practice subsidises (zero fee) visits for enrolled children aged 6-13 years.

All services shall be paid for on the date of service or via internet banking within 7 days from the date of service.

A $15.00 administration fee is added to any invoice not paid in full within 7 days from date of service.

The above table of fees are for a standard 15 minute general medical or accident consultation.

Please note when extra time is needed then a double appointment fee will be charged.

Different charges apply to casual, non-enrolled patients and for other services.

All Nurse services have a minimum service fee of $10 plus any consumable costs.
