Lab Results

Sometimes your doctor needs to take a sample of blood or urine either to discover what is wrong with you or to measure something in your blood so that the right medication is given to you. These tests could be anything from blood sugar to a full blood count or a sample of tissue to test for cancer. While urine can generally be tested in the surgery, blood and other specimens are usually sent away for testing at a laboratory. Most results come back within 48 hours unless a very rare test is needed which has to go to a specialist lab further away when it might take a little longer. Getting your test results -This also applies to other tests- It is not routine to contact you if the test results are normal and no action or follow-up is required. When you sign up for our patient portal you can access your results once they are reviewed and filed by the GP. To sign up for our patient portal Health 365 click: https://health365.co.nz/SGAccount/LogOn If you have any questions you can phone our practice nurse or email a short question and we will reply. Please refer to our contact details. If a result is important for your future health or a more detailed discussion is appropriate, you will be advised to make an appointment to discuss this.
