TĀTAI WHĀNAU Tairāwhiti After-Hours Healthcare is a unique service for whānau living or residing within Tairāwhiti. As an After-Hours Primary Care Service, this means you can arrange to make an appointment to see a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner during the weekends, public holidays and peak periods.
The clinic is based at Ngāti Porou Oranga, Puhi Kaiti Medical Centre, 75 Huxley Road.
Who is this service managed by?
Four Tairāwhiti Iwi and Hauora Māori providers (Ngāti Porou Oranga, Tūranga Health, Te Kupenga Net Trust and Te Whare Hauora o Te Aitanga a Hauiti) have come together with Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora to co-design and deliver this After Hours Service as an extension of our current health services
How do I access this service?
Make an appointment
If you're sick and need to see a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner during the weekend or public holidays, you can call our freephone number, 0800 TAATAI (0800 822 824). One of our team will assist you and organise the best available appointment with a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner.
You can also come into the clinic to make an appointment.

We do not enrol patients and you do not need to be registered with a clinic

Services Provided
You can book an appointment if you are feeling sick and think you need to see a Doctor, for example if you have a sore throat, sore ears, cough or cold. We want to be able to treat you early on, so it doesn't get serious.

This service doesn't cover long term condition management, such as diabetes checks, screenings etc. This is also not a service to issue medical certificates or renew prescriptions. For all of these kinds of health and medical pathways, please continue to see or contact your usual Medical Centre or Doctor. If you have chest pain, are short of breath, have broken your leg or arm etc, you MUST call 111 or go to the Emergency Department at the Hospital.
